Team Update – May and June 2019

June 16th 2019 – Bristol

Big well done to Avid youth – 2 podium places in Bristol this morning! Tom taking 1st place in the U14 boys race and Ellie 3rd in the U14 girls.

June 9th 2019 – Winchester Criterium

Fantastic racing by all riders who showed great determination and bike handling skills to make it safely and competitively around the course. Great result for Will who took third place in the Men’s 3/4 race and Dylan who took fourth place in the U14 boys.

June 6th 2019 – Castle Combe

Castle Combe was a success tonight with Tom Price taking 1st place.

June 3rd 2019 – ‘Mini’ Hell of the North

Every year the famous Roubaix Vélodrome hosts a ‘mini’ hell of the north for kids aged 14 and under. The riders start at varying distances from Roubaix with the eldest competing over 30kms which took in 6 Pavé sectors. We arrived a couple of days early at a rural campsite and by chance were pitched next to a Dutch family who’s son was to compete in the same category as Tom, this proved useful as they could recce the course together. Race day proved chaotic but fun as we dropped Tom at the start point in the French countryside and attempted to reach the finish before him but with all the road closures we arrived 30 mins after he finished! It was a huge learning curve and to get to the start line felt like a victory. The whole event was really exciting and it has been Toms favourite race to date. Highly recommend to any of the younger riders.

May 31st 2019 – Castle Combe

2nd from the break at Combe last night. Thanks to Harry for getting me off the front into the headwind!

May 26th 2019 – National Circuit Race

Tom competed in his first National circuit race today at Redbridge cycle centre. Using it as a learning experience he led the pack and also closed down a couple of attacks. He finally blew a gasket with 2 laps to go but managed to TT himself to the end of the race within half a lap of the winner.

May 26th 2019 – Welsh National Crit Champs

The Welsh National Crit champs in Aberystwyth yesterday was interesting!
Anwen scared herself on the descent and kind of lost her nerve. Lots of lessons learnt and some good stuff she can work on to improve for next Crit.
Isobel was racing for third and looking strong until the 22min where she lost concentration for a second and ended up in the barrier. The race was stopped, she was checked over by medic, then got back on her bike and finished 7th.
Really proud of both of these girls.

May 26th 2019 – Team Series

Fantastic days racing at the Team Series. Great team work with some tough climbing. Lauren took top ten!

May 24th 2019 – Cyclocross

Local Summer CX update. Georgina 1st u16 last 2 weeks. Oscar working his way up the u14 fleet.

May 19th 2019 – Tom Hawkins Road Race

Tom Hawkins road race was very very hard today with 11 laps of a brutal course with plenty of climbing, with almost 70 starting and only 20 finishers I was very happy to take top junior even if I was 10 minutes out the back.

May 12th 2019 – Westbury Wheelers Hardriders TT

Lauren Johnston taking 1st lady at the Westbury Wheelers Hardriders TT this morning.

May 12th 2019  – Thames Velo Road Race

Thames Velo Road Race today was a difficult race, going into the final about 1km to go I was way out of position but managed to follow the right wheels and ended up getting 3rd in a proper bunch sprint against adults so was a good day out.
